    A Funny Picture A Day

This picture is so funny, I crack up every time I look at it. Perhaps it's Darth Vader's expression?

    While I Was Away

Yes, I know. I haven't been updating my blog in a million years. Donny was asking why I didn't update my blog for so long the other day. Samantha asked me too, in a somewhat friendly "Oii, update your blog lah!" tone. Many apologies for not updating my blog for almost a month, it has been a pretty crazy month as I was super busy + lacked inspiration. Not that I didn't want to, it's because I couldn't.

I'm trying to kick start my blog-writing habits again after this month-long layoff, because honestly, I think I do miss blogging quite a little bit. So, while I was away, I:

    1) Wrote, wrote and wrote
It has been an incredibly busy month at work due to all the Hollywood awards season, and especially when you are short-handed. One of the main reasons why I didn't blog as much is because by the time I got home from work, I was so tired and I got so sick of writing, I didn't wanna write anymore. But you gotta admit, I wrote some kick-ass articles, like these: Spoilt little rich kids, Before they were famous: Celebrity odd jobs, Here comes the Hollywood bride and TV's hottest doctors to name a few. And the Entertainment desk won a total of RM23.70 in the new office incentive system.

    2) Found someone special
And her name is Samantha. And she's lovely and sweet. And she's an angel. And I really like her =) A lot! *Pic has been Sam-approved!

    3) Jambalya-ed!
It's the first play I have been to in awhile and I really enjoyed it. It was quirky, and funny. And yeah, Sam was the stage manager for the night.

    4)  Watched the Biggest Loser Asia Finale live
Was never really a fan of the series, but it was a pretty intense finale especially when you watch it live. Didn't appreciate the 6-hour long taping of the finale, but thankfully I had Donny and Aaron to bitch with at the studio.

    5) Watched (500) Days of Summer a million times
...in a week. It quickly became one of my favorite romcoms of all time. Also became an instant fan of Zooey Deschanel; she is super cute and pretty (albeit looking a lot like Katy Perry in the movie). Still bummed that (500) Days of Summer wasn't nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

    6) Potlucked and amateur karaoked singing with the colleagues
It's been awhile since we the crazy MSN-ers hung out, and it was Reta's idea to have a potluck session at Amir's place. Plenty of booze, food, JUNK food, laughing and amateur singing ensued. It was really fun, should do this more often. Sorry I had to ditch early though, guys! Should have stayed a bit later to see Lydia stripping Shaza.

    7) Went to Singapore with the girl
It was a tiring trip, but it was well-worth it because I went with her...and her parents! Initially we wanted to go to Universal Studios, but it was really expensive (say, S$72?) and it rained the whole day. In the end, we took a bus to Vivo City, waited three hours for it to open and we walked and walked and walked till it's time for us to head back. And we had macaroons!

    8) Went to the hot air balloon show
...just to have the rain ruin the party =( We wanted to see the Darth Vader hot air balloon so badly, and it was half way blown up until the rain decided to play Anakin Skywalker and ruined it for us. Oh well, at least it was fun while it lasted. Sorry dear, we go again next year OK? =) Hopefully it doesn't rain.

    9) Am still a huge Megan Fox fan
    =D *grins sheepishly*

Meeting An American Idol - Part I

Anyone who knows me well would know that I'm a big Adam Lambert fan and how much I love his music. No offence to Kris Allen though - I do believe he is a very good singer and he deserves to win Idol - but I prefer Lambert's flamboyance and theatrics. But of course, when I found out that Kris will be coming down to Malaysia for a meet-the-fans session and an exclusive showcase, being an entertainment writer and an American Idol junkie, I thought I shouldn't give up an opportunity to meet an Idol in person. After all, Kris Allen is the first and only American Idol who has ever made a trip to our small little country. Lucky right, we all?

According to the people who gave me the passes to see Kris Allen in person (thank you, Star World!), Kris Allen touched down the night before. I'm pretty sure there were hundreds of screaming fans who welcomed him, and let me assure you I wasn't one of them in case you were wondering.

The press conference (aka our first glimpse of the man himself) took place at a posh club called the GSix Club in the Gardens Mall and trust me, when Kris came out to take the stage for a brief Q&A session with us media monkeys, there were lots of screaming - from the members of the media! Yeah, we know we should all be professional, but sometimes we can't help ourselves. I mean, c'mon, what would you do if you see, let's say, Brad Pitt in person? Wouldn't you wanna give him a hug too? And here's a funny thing: my fellow R&D 09 buddy, Hitz.FM DJ Jin hosted the press conference! Haven't seen that guy in awhile, and we bumped into each other there.

Kris was exactly like what you see him on TV: a little shy, very down to earth and a typical boy-next-door who could sing. He is also a funny chap - something I didn't really know 'cos on Idol, we saw him as the shy one who usually kept to himself. But no, this Kris Allen was uncharacteristically funny and bratty; he even teased a reporter who asked him a question. Cheeky!

But one thing though: Kris is actually much shorter than he looks on TV. Like, way much shorter. And I'm proud to say I'm TALLER than an American Idol (*cue evil laugh*), although he is richer, more popular, more good-looking and more talented than me. Me 1 - Kris Allen 100! Oh well!

Here are more pics of the Allen from the press conference:

Throw Me An Elbow, And I'd Throw It Right Back

    My battlefield

I started playing basketball when I was just 13, I think after watching Michael Jordan in 'Space Jam'. Back then, I have a group of friends who were into basketball as well. We would play basketball during Pendidikan Jasmani classes, and after school as well. We would have fun, and we love our basketball so much, we would camp on the basketball court itself if Pak Guard let us, or play in the rain. We were basketball junkies back then - and that was the reason why I was a dark, skinny young boy growing up. My mom almost disowned me because she said I don't look like her son anymore -___-" People dark a bit only mah!

    My weapon

12 years on, I don't see basketball as a fun sport anymore. Well, not to say it's not fun at all lah, but I see the basketball court as a battlefield - a place where only the fittest will survive. The fun game I used to know is not that fun anymore: my friends are not so passionate about the sport anymore and most of us are too busy to hit the courts, now that we are all adults.

But these couple of years, the basketball court is a place where I could escape to. Life didn't really go according to how I wanted it to at times, and while some can afford to fly to an island for a holiday, the only place I know I can let it all out is the basketball court. I know that for a two good hours, I'll be able to just forget what's on my mind.

A good basketball game is the perfect distraction to all the mess that is going around. When I'm sad, I go to the court. When I feel lonely, I go to the court. When I'm angry, I go to the court. I feel that the basketball court is the only place I could let my competitive instincts rule me and a place where I can smile at the challenge of playing against someone better. It's a place where when someone throws me an elbow, I can throw it right back. Or when someone taunts me, I'll taunt them back with the game-winning shot. Sometimes there is no better feeling than to look at your opponents' dejected faces, and that, as bad as it may sound, it does put a smile on mine.

From what used to be my playground, to what I call it my battlefield now, I sometimes think basketball is what keeps me sane =)

    The Games That We Play

Proving that those who work at MSN Malaysia are indeed a crazy bunch, we have this customary game we only play if we wanted to have lunch at the Food Gardens @ Gardens Mid Valley. We call it: The Elevator Game! *jeng jeng jeng*

This is how you play: one of us will press the button, and you stand at the door of the elevator which you think will open. Winner get bragging rights, like how the lil one Lydia always brag that she always guess correctly *roll eyes*

So yes, if we have 10 people, you will usually see a bunch of us standing in front of the elevator. And you will also see a bunch of people staring at us. Which we don't mind. 'Cos we are having fun =)

Jo won today's game. Beginner's luck, I would say.

So, one day, my co-worker Johanan was watching an episode of Leverage and this guy was listed as the Most Wanted Man by the International Police:

Apparently, I'm a hardcore criminal who is high on the Interpol's Most Wanted Man list :D Awesome!!

Pants On The Ground And Everything In Between

As you should have known by now - unless you have been living under a rock - that the ninth season of American Idol officially kicked off last week. I have still not gotten over Season 8 though, that's 'cos my fave Idol from Season 8 is making headlines and rockin' as hard as before.

The reason why I like Adam Lambert as a performer is because of his originality (remember 'If I Can't Have You'?), his musical talents and soaring vocal range, and definitely his mesmerizing performances on stage. Come and think of it, I have never really liked any guy Idols before Lambert because 1) the ladies are always hotter (and more talented) 2) they all look and sound the same and 3) I'm not gay, thank you very much.

OK, coming back to Idol Season 9, I know it's only two episodes into the new season, but I think I have already found my favourites and yeap, you guessed it: they are pretty, talented hot chicks.

My first favourite is 21-year-old Ashley Rodriguez from the Boston audition rounds. She is super sweet, has a very nice smile and gawd, she can sing as well! She sang Alicia Keys' 'If I Ain't Got You' and she sailed through with flying colours. Simon even said she "has it", and if you are an Idol junkie, you know you don't hear that often from Simon.

My second favourite is 20-year-old Mallorie Haley from the Atlanta audition rounds. She is really cute,
blonde (those who know me well knows that I have a soft spot for blonde girls =p) and she sounds a lot
like Carrie Underwood. Like, if you close your eyes and listen, the uncanny resemblance is just amazing. She sang Faith Hill's 'Piece Of My Heart' and like my dear Ashley, sailed through to Hollywood. Really do
hope both of them will be in the Top 12. *crosses fingers*

And of course, who can forget The General, Larry Pratt, and his super-infectious 'Pants on the Ground' (you look like a fool with your pants on the ground). The 62-year-old real American hero, unlike William Hung, managed to upstage all the "real" singers on the Atlanta auditions episode with his instantly viral hit that left the judges gasping for air. And yeah, Simon was right when he said that 'Pants on the Ground' will become an instant hit.

Just some random facts: did you know that General Larry Pratt has his own holiday in Atlanta, on
September 4th? And that he was a student of Martin Luther King? He ain't no fool with his pants on the
    ground, mind you!

    *****

In spirit of the General, I came up with my very own pick-up line:

"Hi, my name is ______. Would you like to see my
    Pants on the Ground?"

    Pretty smart, huh? =P

    If I Wasn't A Writer...

Remember when you were younger, and you see a policeman or a doctor on TV, you turn to your mom and say, "Mommy, when I grow up, I wanna be a policeman". Or you when you see Superman on TV, you dream of becoming Superman? Of course, everyone wants to be Superman, but surviving a ten-storey fall is another story lah.

Believe it or not, when I was younger, I never thought of becoming a writer. In fact, it was my mom who chose my major in college. It wasn't until my second year in university that I realised I wanted to do advertising, but it was too late to make a U-turn that time. Not to say I don't like writing - I heart writing! - but when I was younger, I thought of becoming a lot of things - the White Power Ranger being one :P

So, if I wasn't a writer, I would most probably be...

    1) A doctor, a policeman or a lawyer
Ask any little boy: it is an unwritten rule that they MUST become either a) a doctor b) a policeman or c) a lawyer when they grow up. I wasn't any different. But the older you got, you realised that a) you are too broke to pursue medicine b) being a policeman means you eat bread every end of the month and c) you get so fed up arguing with your girlfriend, you don't wanna argue for a living anymore.

Sorry la, the closest picture I have got that looks like a lawyer

    2) A comic artist
Here's a less known fact: when I was in Standard Six, I bought myself a thirty page, big notebook and I drew a Power Rangers (yes, I was a big fan back then) comic book complete with my own story line and new characters. I love drawing when I was younger, I used to spend hours and hours drawing stuff like Godzilla, Ultraman and of course, the Power Rangers. But too bad my love for drawing grew out with age.

Something I drew using my phone in the train. Cute, right?

    3) A professional basketball player
Like they say: if you wanna get rich, play some sort of ball. (Note: ball is singular, so no jokes about playing with balls, OK people?)

    4) A travel host
I like traveling, meeting new people, see cool stuff and acting all crazy at some other people's country. The sad part? I'm too broke to go traveling. The best part? As a travel host, you get PAID for enjoying yourself. Because I'm in the entertainment line, I might still be able to become a travel host (hopefully!). So wish me luck =)

    5) An actor or a singer
They say Geminis make good actors or singers but actors don't necessary make good Geminis (wtf!!). I guess me being a Gemini means that I like being in the center of attention, and there's no better way to do that than being an actor or a singer. I used to be quite an entertainer when I was younger, but the older I grew, I shy already.

    6) Professional prostitute tester
    Never mind.

She is not one, by the way.

But after all that's said and done, I still prefer writing stuff like this for you guys to read! =)

    Drinking The New Year Away

Well, OK. It didn't really take place on New Year's Eve, but any day is a good day to drink, right? To usher in the New Year, we the Refine & Define bunch of '09 has decided to invade TOM, DICK & HARRY's @ TTDI for a round of (very crazy) drinking session. I'm not really an everyday drinker, but more of like a social drinker. And because Uncle Alvin insists that we all come out and gather for the first time in 2010 (and I kinda blew them off the first drinking session a month before that), I was more than glad to join the bunch this time around.

Aaron decides to camwhore with the menu (or he is showing off his powderful bicep).

Lemme tell you; there are no better company to spend your New Year drinking than these guys. I knew them for almost a year now, and every time we hang out, you'll always have the time of your life - laughing, doing crazy stuff, camwhoring, more laughing - and by the end of the day, you'll be looking forward to your next outing.

This time around, the ever so bising "Edmund" brought along a new friend from work; her name is Stacy Tracy Nancy. She was, like everyone, taken aback by our craziness at first but well, we are one bunch of lovable people, so she ended up loving all of us in the end.

Of course, we all started chatty and sober at first - like always, but ten jugs of Carlsberg later, things started to get a bit crazy, the R&D09 way! Like for example, "Edmund" started molesting Eezern:

And later, he turned his attention to Donny instead:

Of course, Donny didn't like it lah!

And because we have a few pro/semi-pro photographers in our ranks, we camwhored quite a bit too:

    And camwhored:

    And camwhored:

And our kooky + crazy + extremely fun dance instructor - who used to be hot as well until she surprised us with her yucky new hairstyle - Lili Kosin, decided to join us. Shorter hair or not, we still love you kays? =)

See, didn't I tell you she used to be hot?

But it was no surprise that Lili would join us because she is a total beer junkie. Just mention 'Carlsberg' and she will come and hug you and call you her BFF. And of course, we missed her too because it has been awhile since we last saw her. After a couple of jugs (I lost count!) our Carlsberg gal began hugging people:

We have to give it to her for being able to entertain us so much. Her new trick: the tampon-in-your-nose trick:

Sigh! Writing about this makes me miss the guys already. It's always fun to be able to hang out with the bunch. But yeah, that was how I spent my New Year. How did you spend yours?

And oh, not forgetting that Uncle Alvin managed to create a new type of beer. We call it the Beer Float:

    It was surprisingly kinda tasty!
